Support for Pensioners and Savers
People in Irthlingborough had the chance to talk to Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Louise Bagshawe and Conservative Irthlingborough's County Councillor Andrew Langley on Saturday 14 March at a street stall hosted by Irthlingborough Conservatives on the High Street.

Pensions Campaign Photograph Together with local District and Town Councillors, Louise and Andrew were asking local people to sign a petition in support of Conservative plans to cut taxes for pensioners and savers who are suffering as the income on their savings falls during the economic recession. Corby & East Northamptonshire Parliamentary Candidate Louise Bagshawe said:

"Savers and pensioners are the innocent victims of this recession. They are being punished for putting money aside. The Conservatives have a positive set of measures that would help them. There are changes that could be made right away if Gordon Brown wanted to. With the support of local people we are sending a strong message to Gordon Brown that he can - and must - do more to help savers and pensioners who have been hit by the recession."

Irthlingborough County Councillor Andrew Langley said:

"We need to cut taxes for pensioners and savers and help them through the recession. Over the long term, cutting taxes on savings would help build a savings culture and end Britain's addiction to debt under Gordon Brown. As Irthlingborough's County Councillor, I am working hard to ensure that the voice of local people is heard. I want to give people in Irthlingborough every possible support. That is why Irthlingborough Conservatives are working hard on this issue. Thank you to the hundreds of people in the town who supported our campaign by visiting our street stall on Saturday."

To support Louise Bagshawe's campaign to help pensioners and savers, a petition postcard is available for download at http://www.louisebagshawe.net/. You can view some of the photographs of the event on the Pictures page and download the press release on the News page of this web site.
